Avenues 12 Accomplishments Within the Past 5 Years

  • April 7, 2009: Avenues 12 was founded and applied to became a non-profit  501(c) 3 organization. We formed a Board of Directors comprised of creative and dedicated members of the Daytona community. Our members encompass a broad range of professions, from law to medicine, finance and real estate.

  • October 16, 2009: To meet a severe gap in services available in East Central Florida, Avenues 12  located a property that could house 12 beds and opened our first transitional living house, serving exclusively, women who are in the post in-patient alcohol recovery treatment process.

  • November 2009: Commenced networking and collaborating with a large network of community providers including Haven Recovery, Stewart Marchman Act/Project WARM, 2nd Harvest Food Bank, and the Salvation Army.

  • January 3, 2010: Had our first News Journal article written about Avenues 12 and the program that we offer women.

  • February 2010: Commenced partnerships with Bethune Cookman University and Daytona State College with both their internship and externship programs.

  • March 2010: Commenced partnerships with Center for Business Excellence, One Stop Career Center, and Goodwill Career Center to aid program participants in their employment opportunities.

  • April 2010: Avenues 12 was officially recognized as a chartered non-profit 501(c) 3 organization.

  • October 16, 2010: In response to a consistently full waiting list of potential program participants. Avenues 12 purchased and opened our second house bringing an additional 13 beds.

  • January 2, 2011: Had our second News Journal Article written about the needed expansion and purchasing of another house to accommodate additional women in the area.

  • January 15, 2011: Commenced a partnership with Daytona State College’s Nursing Program and the University of Central Florida internship program. We joined the COC (Continuum of Care) Homeless Coalition, One Voice for Volusia, The Substance Abuse Task Force, Volusia/Flagler Behavioral Health Consortium, and the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce.

  • January 2012: Avenues 12 was featured in “Think Healthy” magazine and an additional article was written in the Daytona News Journal.

  • January 2012/2013: Became and remain a United Way participating agency through the Women’s Initiative of Volusia/Flagler Counties.

  • February 2013: Became accredited through FARR (Florida Association of Recovery Residences) and NARR (National Association of Recovery Residences). Our Executive Director, Kay Hayes, sits on the Board of Directors with FARR.

  • March 2013- Purchased a third property. A 10 unit apartment building that can house 21 women for extended living needs.

  • April 2013- Had another promising article written about the success of the Avenues 12 program through the News Journal.

  • May 4, 2013: Started renovations on our 10 unit “Sober Apartments”.

  • May 29, 2013 began moving women into renovated apartments. These women have been successful in our program for 6-9 months but who would like to remain within the program for an additional 12 to 24 months. The apartments allow women to live in a sober environment while continuing their education and career building. Many women living in the sober apartments are rebuilding their family/children relationships as well.

  • June 2013 – became a member of the FADAA (Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association).

  • August 2013: Became a member of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce.
